The Red Wings Red Hot Issue
Hey everyone, welcome back to my sports and fitness blog. Is anyone reading this from the Detroit area, or just a fan of the Detroit Red Wings NHL team? If so, you should already know the issues I am going to be talking about after missing the playoffs for the first time in 25 years. While we can’t pin the end of this quarter decade of domination on a single factor, it is pretty easy to point towards the goal net as the opponents so often do. Jared Coreau has not been playing up to his normal standard, and the departure of some key defensemen has left him all by himself.
An absence of high round draft picks in the last quarter decade is finally starting to be a nagging issue for the Red Wings. After Detroit passed on re-signing key players last offseason and instead went with a cast of young players at the blue line. The height of the ceiling for these young players is not yet known, but what is known is that it is nowhere near the level of the players before them.
The lose of Pavel Datsyuk last offseason for the Kontinental Hockey League last offseason is still haunting the Red Wings. Datsyuk was a leader on and off the ice and Detroit has not been able to find someone capable of replacing that leadership element. Of course, missing out on a 2 time Stanley Cup Champion and 3 time Selke Trophy winner is already a pretty big issue.
Any Red Wings fans out there who care to chime in on this? I am curious as to what a fan would think. Leave your thoughts in the comments below, and have a great week!
